How To Connect A Krzr to Your PC

June 18, 2007

Here’s a some questions that are very commonly asked in our comments, “How do I connect my Krzr to my pc?” “How do I hook my Motorola Krazr up to my computer?” Since it’s been asked so many times, we’re going to teach you! This lesson if for the Krzr K1m!

The first thing you have to do is find a USB cable that fits that phone. The right type is called mini USB, and you can buy it at CompUSA, or any Radioshack. Take your phone in so that you make sure you get the right one. Motorola and Verizon will both tell you that you must use the cable from the Motorola Original data kit.

We’re going to use a cable that isn’t made by Motorola, but know that you’re doing this at your own risk.

Make sure that your phone and computer are both on. The first thing you’re going to do is plug the small end on the USB cable into your phone. It plugs into the exact same place as your charger. Then plug the larger end of the USB cable into your computer’s USB port. Note: It is highly important that you plug it into your computer, and not into a USB hub. The port needs to be powered, and many times the ports and USB hubs and keyboards aren’t. Straight into the computer!

Once you’ve plugged them both in, a window will pop up on your screen that looks like this:

New Krzr Wizard

We don’t want to use this window, so you’re going to click cancel. A little window might come up saying that there was a problem with the installation. This is ok! It’s only saying that because we haven’t completed the process yet.

You’re going to need a driver to complete the installation. Download it here. Once you’ve clicked the link, you will see a popup box that looks something like this:

Krzr Driver Extract

You will click save, and then you will see something like this:

krzr driver

You want to click “Desktop” (That way it will save the driver to your desktop, that way you will know where it is later) You will then click “Save”. Your computer will then download the driver, and you will get a new window that looks like this:

Krzr Download Complete

You will then minimize all you windows so that you’re looking at your desktop. Remember that this is where we saved the driver. The driver should look something like this:

Driver

You should now right click your mouse on the driver icon (as you can see it’s called motokrzr driver), and select “Extract” Some versions of Windows might say “Extract All” and that option would be fine also. The point is that you need to extract the file. After you extract it, you’ll find that their is a new file on your desktop, it should look something like this:

Krzr Driver 2

You want to double click this icon. You’ll then see this:

Moto Driver Krzr

You will click “next” and will then see this:

License

You have to read it, :) and then select “I Agree” and then click “Next”. You will then see this while it installs the driver:

Installing Krzr Driver

This will come up when it’s done:

Driver Installation Complete

Click “Close” and you’re all done! You have connected the Krzr K1 or K1m to your pc! Some of you may be connecting to your pcs so that you can transfer songs. If you’re interested in that, you can read our lesson on transferring music to the krzr.

Update: Some people’s computers have a bug that won’t allow a connection to the Krazr. This download fixes the bug: Sync Music Fix

All you have to do is download the patch (I would save it to your desktop so that you know where it is) and double click on it. A little window will come up that looks like this:

Krzr Syncing

That will fix the problem for you! Yes, it’s that easy.

  7. Ste on July 14th, 2007 1:35 pm

Right ok I’ve downloaded and installed the driver and the patch. Restarted both phone and PC (XP). When I connect the USB link the symbol appears on the phone screen and the PC makes a sound as normal for a USB. But what actually “happens”? Is a window meant to appear? I’m in the UK btw.
    Cheers

I have done exactly as you have explained, however I get this message on the phone after “Sync Music” Connect Failure Please check your cable connection to the PC. the version # during the attemt to connect is 01.02.006

I am using a usb cable that came with a Pocketec external hard drive.

    BTW thanks for the tutorial

    Carlton

  9. Andy on July 17th, 2007 6:01 pm

    Thank you so much!

To the rest of the people - how about just a courtesy “thank you” to the admin for setting up this tutorial instead of just whining that due to a user error you can’t get your phone to sync…

Great instructions, but my Verzon KRZR still won’t work. After going through all the steps. The new hardware wizard displays “Can not instal this hardware” Hardware was not installed because wizard could not find necessary software. What am I missing?

I followed the instructions too and my phone still isn’t showing up in my computer.

When I connect the USB cable again it recognizes that the phone is connected, but it still doesn’t show up. Ran the patch too and no dice.

  22. Steve on October 1st, 2007 6:56 am

Hey! I followed these instructions as well as downloaded the drive and the patch from several different websites on several different computers but no luck. When I look in device manager, it shows my phone but no drivers attached. Its like the comp doesn’t even recognize any of the drivers I installed! Any advice?? This is getting to be frustrating!

  23. mare on October 1st, 2007 6:38 pm

I had the same issues. I was unable to even extract the file, but I tried it this way…
DO NOT plug in your usb cord to your computer. Start from these directions: “You’re going to need a driver to complete the installation. Download it here. Once you’ve clicked the link, you will see a popup box that looks something like this:….” Hopefully that works, it worked for me! Good Luck

I have Windows XP Media Edition. I tried several times to install the Motorola driver following exactly the described procedure.
It initially opens the New Hardware Wizard, I cancel it and start the driver installation. The driver is installed but the computer does not see my KRZR K1M phone (Verizon ). When I try to Sync it cannot connect computer to the phone. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the driver - no luck. Did anybody experienced such thing? Appreciate your help.

You know, despite what Mother Theresa said, peaches aint always fuzzy. Try to stand straight when walking down the aisle that the paper products are on. Its very important to clean the lint from the hamburger before you change lanes. Just a little free advice. Dont thank me. Thank Steve. Without Steve, the world would be flat. God Bless .

  44. eileen on July 25th, 2008 7:27 pm

    my first time

  45. hahahha on July 27th, 2008 7:43 am

okay…. this is very simple…… after installing the updates, DON”T UNINSTALL WMP 11 (if u have that installed) that will work perfectly fine. After a few times of plugging and unplugging your krzr into your comp, a message should pop up saying “New drivers are installed, you should start your computer now blahahhaha.” restart your comp. once restarted, plug in your krzr and open up wmp 11 and click “sync”. if you want to install extra apps like free txt messaging, gt http://www.mobileheart.com/cell-phone-softwares/download-Software-SMS-Messenger-3428.aspx
use software like bitpim to install it or copy it into your phone folder under /java. if u have windows vista or mac os x, no clue. try partitioning your hdd and put linux on it…..

  46. Calamaster on July 27th, 2008 1:41 pm

I have found the solution to the connection problem.

AFTER you have installed the above.

In all the instructions I have seen with other downloads it says make sure the PHONE -> MAIN MENU -> CONNECTIVITY ->USB SETTINGS should be ‘DATA CONNECTION”.
This is WRONG??. I changed it to MEMORY CARD. Plugged in the cable and up popped the standard windows connection window.
I can Play Media, Browser Phone - the lot!

    Hope this helps those desperados!

  47. Chris W 94 on July 27th, 2008 11:24 pm
