How To Remove The Krzr Battery Cover

June 30, 2007

Lately we’ve been having a ton of people asking us how to remove the battery cover of the Motorola Krzr K1 and K1m. This tutorial will work with every version of the Krzr that’s been released so far including: Verizon Krzr K1m, Sprint Krzr K1m, Cingular Krzr K1, T-Mobile Krzr K1, Motorola Krzr K1, Motorola Krzr K1m, Motorola Krazr, Motorola Krazor, Motorola Krazer.

Krzr K1 Battery Cover

The battery cover is actually pretty simple to remove. (It took me some time to figure out because it’s quite different that many other phones.) The button that you will use is shown in the picture to the left. For your convenience, I’ll make 2 lessons, one simple, and the other more thorough.

Simple Version (The lesson assumes that you are looking at the phone exactly as we’re looking at this picture.)

  1. Push the button shown in the picture.
  2. Slide the cover up. It will only move up about 1/8″.
  3. Pull the cover toward you.

Thorough Version (The lesson assumes that you are looking at the phone exactly as we’re looking at the above picture.)

In the picture above, you’re looking at the back side of the phone. The little button that you need to press is very near the top. You will probably have to push it in with your fingernail because it needs to be pressed in quite a bit, and I can’t push it in far enough if I just push it with my finger.Battery Cover Removal Krzr

Once you’ve pushed it in far enough, you’ll be able to slide the cover up about 1/8″. That’s as far as it will slide, and a lot of people get stuck right there because they expect it to slide farther. That’s it, 1/8″.

Once you got it to slide 1/8″, you need to pull it toward you. The best way to do that is to get your fingernail under the edge of the cover and pry it apart. If you’ve done it correctly it will come toward you very easily! You’ve done it!

It’s very likely that you have done this to insert a new memory card, and if you have you should check out the following lessons:

If you have any questions at all, please feel free to leave them in the comments! I won’t know unless you ask. If there’s a way I can improve the lesson I’d be glad to do it!

Can you please tell me how to unlock ringtones on the KRZOR? We bought one from a friend that upgraded, got the new # transfered, and then…All the ringtones have a lock over them, so the phone will only vibrate to show incoming calls. Many calls to Verizon, and they can’t figure it out. (big surprise, no warentee, no new phone) Just a PS…that even the ringtones that CAME with the phone have a little red lock over them. Can you please help?

    Many Thanks,

    LF

EXCELLENT!!! .. I was trying to pivot the thing and pry it own with a razor blade; just couldn’t get it open. Thanks for posting this, it worked great!!!!

P.S. The 1680 mAH “extended” battery worked SSOOOOO much longer, you just have to remember to buy the extra door that fits the bigger battery.

Thank you! I was pushing the right button but coul;d not finesse the door off! I was going Krazy (get it?) with frustration while almost breaking every nail! The instructions to push the door UP slightly was the help I needed. Thank you for your excellent help!

Holy Cow. Thank you sooo much! I enjoy the moron-proof instructions. Three of us, all with advanced degrees tried to open the darn cover, but could not. I was about to hike over to Verizon today for help and stumbled upon these awesome instructions. Why do I need the cover open? The battery is useless and was trying to see what crap was in there.

Got something to say?
