How To Transfer Music To The Rizr Z3 - Method 1

July 5, 2007

T-Mobile Rizor

Now that the Rizr Z3 has been out for a while, I’m staring to get a ton of questions about transferring music. Here are a few I’ve seen from the comments on this site:

  • How do I put songs on the Rizr?
  • How do I transfer music to the T-Mobile Rizor?
  • Do I need to buy software to connect my Rizr to my pc?

Hopefully I can help you out with your questions! The Rizr is very much like the Krzr, in fact the model is almost identical, except for the slider design. Transferring music to the Krzr was explained already, and music transfer to the Rizr will be closely related.

There are 2 primary methods you can use to transfer music. This article discusses the first method. Watch for the second method within the next week. With the first method, you will need:

  • An microSD Memory Card (The card will come with an adapter that will allow you to insert it into an SD memory card reader.)
  • An SD Memory Card Reader

The basic idea behind the first method is that you will add the music to the memory card while it’s hooked up to your pc, and then put it in your phone. Voila! You have music on your phone. That’s a really fast explanation, and in practice it’s quite a bit harder than that.

Here’s what you need to do.

  1. Hook the card reader up to your computer.
  2. You will then take the card and put it into the adapter that it came with.
  3. You will put the adapter in the card reader so that the card is hooked up to your pc. Now the card should be hooked up to the pc.
  4. After that, you need to find the memory card by going to ‘My Computer’. The card should show up as one of the drives in there, probably the E or F drive. It is usually called ‘Removable Disk’ or ‘mobile device’.
  5. After you have figured out which drive is the ‘Removable Disk’ or ‘mobile device’, right click and then select ‘format’. Before you go any further, make sure that you have removed everything you need to save from the card. Formatting the drive will erase everything. If the card is new you have nothing to worry about, but if you have pictures of your kids, save them before going on. So you should have right clicked and selected “format”.
  6. Once the format box comes up, you will select FAT in the file system drop down and then click start. Your computer will then format the drive to the FAT file system. If you don’t know what that means, don’t worry about it. FAT is the most compatible file system with the Rizr Z3. The other option here will probably be FAT 32. Again, you want to select “FAT”.
  7. When your computer is done formatting the drive, you will need to put it in your phone. The phone should recognize it and add some folders to the drive. When it’s done, you will put the card back in the card reader. You will go to “My Computer” again and find the ‘Mobile Device’ or ‘Removable Disk’ again.
  8. This time you will double click on “Mobile Device”, and you should be able to see some folders in there. You should see a folder called ‘my_music’, and if you don’t you need to create one. Make the name to ‘my_music’ without the quotes. Drag your music to that folder and you’re all set!
  9. Put the card back in the phone and you’re all taken care of.

i have been trying to upload song to my rizr, but it doesnt work. when i put the usb cord into the computer ( my phone and computer are now connected by usb) and then go to “my computer” and click on “removable disk(E:), it says, to “insert a disk into drive E:.” what disk are they asking me to insert? my phone doesnt come with a disk. i inserted the 128 MB microSD memory card in already. but its the same thing over and over. my mp3 files are fine, its just the “insert disk” pop-up isnt letting me do anything! i have no choice but to click “ok” obviously. PLEASE HELP ME! what disk to insert?

when you connect them there should be a green light in the upper left corner on your phone. if not then go to your provider’s store. don’t call becasue they couldn’t help over the phone.

there is a green light on left. it looks my like the battery is charging light. but the thing is that no matter how i try nothing will let me upload my songs onto my phone. the pop up says to insert a disk into drive e/f (sometimes the drive changes for an odd reason) but if drive e/f is my phone, then what am i missing? am i supposed to insert anything onto my phone to let me download my music?

Got something to say?
