Motorola i880
June 30, 2007
Sprint has released the Motorola i880, which is an iDEN handset. The iDEN functionality allows the handset to operate Sprint Nextel’s walkie talkie service.
We can see that Motorola and Nextel have combined in an attempt to add some style to the tradtionally borish iDEN handset market. Nextel phones made by Motorola have traditionally been a little borish, although they have functioned extremely well. The i880 looks great, and we’re guessing that buyers will respond to Sprint Nextel’s efforts.
Motorola i880 Network Capability
Many have stated in forums and other websites that the i880 is dual mode. This would mean that the model would work on both the iDEN Nextel network, and the CDMA Sprint network. We have confirmed that this is not the case. The i880 will work only on the Nextel network, which of course means that the model will be able to use the walkie talkie service. However, the model won’t work on the entire Sprint network, so the service will be quite limited.
i880 Features
The model sports downloadable and some already installed Java applications. It has a mini internet browser and GPS capablities. One unique feature of the i880 is that it has an outer coating that resists bacteria that could be damaging. Of course, there are many features of the model, but for your convenience, here are some of the more important ones.
* Integrated Music Player
* 2 Megapixel Camera
* Micro SD Cardslot (64mb card is included)
* Sporty, durable shell
i880 Overall
The i880 is part of the first step in making Nextel iDEN phone fashionable. The phone is fully functional, and offers some nice features. We would recommend it.
