Spammers Permitted To Send Unsolicited Bluetooth Messages In The U.K.
October 10, 2007
In the U.K., the Information Commissioner’s Office evaluated its rules and determined that Bluetooth was not currently covered with its anti-spam laws. This means that spammers could very easily send unsolicited messages to mobile phones there. Many have speculated that the ICO will simply rewrite the rules, but it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be much of a priority.
What’s a spammer going to do? Drive around with a Bluetooth station spamming one person at a time? Since Bluetooth isn’t really a protocol with mass deliverability, it’s doubtful that many spammers will find the ‘Bluetooth cell phones spam’ option worthwhile. I think they’ll stick to the illegal methods. ![]()
Verizon Gleam Phone Unleashed
October 8, 2007
The Verizon Gleam phone is actually made by Samsung, and is officially called the Samsung Gleam SCH-U700. The coolest part about the Verizon Gleam is the super shiny finish, on a phone that has a pretty impressive spec sheet.
As of today, Verizon is offering the Gleam phone for about $150 on a 2-year contract, and is offering about $50 in rebates. Although the model is one of the more expensive non-PDAs, it should sell quite well. It’s definitely one of Verizon’s coolest, in actuality Verizon is known for releasing handsets that are less desirable than their competitors.
Verizon Gleam Phone Basic Features Specs
- Touch-sensitive external controls
- QVGA screen
- microSD cardslot
- stereo Bluetooth
- 2 megapixel camera
We suspect that people will buy the Verizon Gleam phone because of how cool it looks, not because of its features and specs. Who cares? If you don’t have looks, what do you have? ![]()
